From ITPro:
Cyber security: Security awareness can't be just a one off
The key take away from this article should be:
"But, as the DHS itself admits, creating awareness around security for one month is not enough. It has to be an on-going process."
Each & every SMB must take time to re-enforce the importance of cyber security to its employees. I have provided many tips on this blog as to how that can be done. Many of those tips are no, or extremely low, cost solutions.
Here are a few:
1. When sending an email or fax, make sure it is addressed to the
correct person(s)
2. Lock down file shares that contain sensitive business information
3. Restrict access to business critical applications
4. Use a MICRO SHREDDER to destroy ALL paper waste
5. NEVER click links contained in emails from unknown senders
6. Use WPA-2 for all wireless networks & make sure they have a
password
I could go on here but for the sake of brevity I will leave it at these 6 tips. If you have any additional tips please feel free to leave them in the comments section.
