Internet of Things is a threat to privacy, says FTC

From Sophos Naked Security:

Internet of Things is a threat to privacy, says FTC

I try to refrain from profanity but this should definitely be filed under the "No Shit Sherlock" category. When your refrigerator is tracking every time it's opened, your TV is keeping tabs on the shows you watch, your thermostat is recording temp changes ... it doesn't take Stephen Hawking, or Neil DeGrasse Tyson for that matter, to figure out theres an invasion of privacy going on.

Being in the cybersecurity field I realize what happens to all these data points that get collected & it scares the hell out of me.  Orwell was right, just off by 30 years.

"In the not-too-distant future, many, if not most, aspects of our everyday lives will be digitally observed and stored. That data trove will contain a wealth of revealing information that, when patched together, will present a deeply personal and startlingly complete picture of each of us - one that includes details about our financial circumstances, our health, our religious preferences, and our family and friends.

...

Connected devices that provide increased convenience and improve health services are also collecting, transmitting, storing, and often sharing vast amounts of consumer data, some of it highly personal, thereby creating a number of privacy risks." - Edith Ramirez, FTC chairwoman
